Rameswar Jyotirlinga Shiva TirthamRameswaram, also known as the Varanasi of the south, is one of the twelve sacred Jyotir Linga sites in India. It is a major pilgrimage center for both Shaivites and Vaishnavaites as Lord Rama (described as an incarnation of Lord Vishnu in the Indian epic “The Ramayana”) worshipped Lord Shiva to atone the sin of killing Ravana. The major center of attraction of the town is the Ramanathaswamy Temple, one of the most sacred temples in southern India.
